Women's Basketball Downed By Duhawks In Non-Conference Tilt

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a non-conference contest to Loras 62-49 on Tuesday in its final home game of the 2024 calendar year at Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (4-5), who set season highs for three-point attempts (32) and free throw attempts (22), were plagued by a second quarter where they were held without a made field goal.

WLC jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Duhawks just two minutes in behind a pair of layups from junior Jayden Hill (Kenosha, Wis.) and a three from senior Mack Hogenson (Neenah, Wis.). LC closed within four points at 10-6 before Wisconsin Lutheran netted the final six points of the first quarter to take a 16-6 lead, its largest of the game.

Loras opened the second quarter with 16 consecutive points to take its first lead of the game. The Warriors' first and only points of the quarter came at the free throw line from senior Janiyah Goner (Milwaukee, Wis.) with two minutes left. A three in the final minute gave the Duhawks a 25-18 halftime advantage.

WLC opened the third quarter by scoring the first nine points to grab a 27-25 lead four minutes in following a layup from Hogenson. LC answered with a 10-3 scoring run for a 38-31 advantage with two minutes remaining. Wisconsin Lutheran cut its deficit to four points, 40-36, after three quarters.

A 7-2 spurt to start the fourth quarter gave the Warriors a 43-42 lead at the 7:03 mark, capped by a free throw from freshman Abby Cole (Fond du Lac, Wis.). Loras responded again with a 9-0 run to take an eight-point lead with 2:40 left. The Duhawks made all four of their final free throw attempts to leave Milwaukee with a 13-point victory.

Hill paced WLC with a season-high 12 points, along with seven rebounds, and a season-best four steals. Hogenson added 11 points, while Cole collected her first career double-double with 10 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Wisconsin Lutheran was held to 26.8 percent (15-for-56) shooting from the floor.

Claire Wagner scored a game-high 25 points to lead three players in double figures for LC, which shot 36.4 percent (20-for-55) for the game.

The Warriors are idle until Sunday, December 29 when they take on No. 2 Wartburg (8-1) in their first game of the Wartburg Holiday Tournament at 4 p.m. in Waverly, Iowa. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
