Fightin' Engineers Leads HCAC After Wire-to-Wire Win over Earlham

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team picked up a wire-to-wire 74-59 victory over Earlham College on Wednesday night in their final conference game of 2024.

The Fightin' Engineers dominated the first quarter of action to take a controlling lead over the Quakers after ending the first quarter on a 16-2 run to lead 24-7 at the end of one.

Katelyn Fennell triple would give Rose-Hulman its biggest lead of the game at 20 early in the second. However, Earlham battled back with a 17-5 run to end the half to cut the lead to 36-28, holding Rose-Hulman scoreless for the final 3:36 of the half.

The Fightin' Engineers came out of the locker room with their foot on the gas pedal as they quickly ballooned the lead to 15, and the lead would remain in double figures for the rest of the contest as they rolled to a 74-59 victory.

The win for Rose-Hulman is the sixth consecutive win over the Quakers and the third straight win overall for Rose-Hulman.

Katelyn Fennell and Sophia Reese both led the Fightin' Engineers with a career-high 18 points in the win. Fennell also tallied career-highs of 4 assists and 2 blocks as well as grabbing 9 boards.

CK Gallegos-Rodriguez and Jamie Baum finished the game with 9 points each, and Emma Schipp added 7 for the Fightin' Engineers.

With the win, Rose-Hulman improves to 5-5 on the season and 3-1 in the HCAC to take over first place in the conference heading into the holiday season. The Fightin' Engineers will close out the 2024 calendar year on Friday, December 20, as they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to battle the Spalding Golden Eagles in their final non-conference game of the season.
