WESTMINSTER, Md. – Despite a career game from Mari Faust (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) and a good defensive performance, the Hood College women's Basketball team was defeated by McDaniel 46-40 in Saturday afternoon's contest.

Faust scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds, and snatched three steals. She shot an efficient 70 percent from the field on her way to setting a new career-high in points.
 
Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch High School) scored ten points and finished with five rebounds.
   
How it Happened
 
McDaniel started the game off with a 9-0 run, before Chanelle Lee (Brunswick, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) scored Hood's first points about halfway through the first quarter. Johnson and Aliyah Taylor (Randallstown, Md./Pikesville High School) followed it up with layups of their own, but the Green Terror's hot start continued. The Blazers trailed 20-6 after the first ten minutes.
 
The second quarter was a different story, as Hood looked to have shaken off the slow start. Faust checked into the game and went on a 9-0 scoring run of her own. McDaniel's compounding turnovers kept them from getting much going offensively. The Blazers' defensive effort led to points on the other end and helped them cut the deficit. The Green Terror went into the break leading 24-21.
  
As the second half began, back-and-forth action ensued. High percentage shot selection from both teams resulted in them trading baskets. Johnson got it done in the paint and at the free throw line. Eventually, the Green Terror was able to string together stops and push their lead to double figures. Heading into the final frame, McDaniel led 42-30.

After giving up a layup on the opening possession, Hood's defense kept McDaniel from making a field goal for the rest of the game. Faust went on another scoring spree and set Johnson up with an easy basket to cut the lead to four points. The Green Terror added to their lead at the free throw line and the Blazers ran out of time for their comeback. After a hard-fought battle, Hood fell to McDaniel 46-40.
 
For the Opponent
 
Elaina Beckett led all scorers with 19 points.
 
Teya McConnaha scored eight points and finished with seven rebounds.
  
Analysis
 
The Green Terror scored 23 points off turnovers while the Blazers had 11. They also scored ten second chance points to Hood's five.
  
The Blazers' bench outscored McDaniel's 20-9.
