Inside the Box Score

Tiffany Manning (Randallstown, Md./Western Tech) scored 13 points and snagged seven rebounds.

How it Happened

The first quarter looked to be the start of a defensive battle. Aliyah Taylor (Randallstown, Md./Pikesville High School) got the Blazers on the board early before the Panthers responded with a layup of their own. Lee responded with a three-pointer from the wing, giving Libby Kiley (Taneytown, Md./Springdale Prep) the assist. Accumulating turnovers became costly and the Blazers trailed 12-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Kourtney Johnson (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch High School) made her presence felt with a quick basket on Hood's first possession of the quarter. The Blazers turned up the pressure on the defensive end and didn't surrender any points until about halfway through the quarter. Lee's aggressive offense earned her multiple trips to the line where she shot 100 percent on the night. Manning chipped in with a pair of tough layups as well. Late in the quarter, Maya Gordon (Towson, Md./Loch Raven High School) finished through contact and made her free throw to give the Blazers the 23-18 lead and momentum heading into halftime.

Hood picked up where they left off as the second half action began. Johnson scored back-to-back baskets to build on their lead. Serenity Ritchie (Martinsburg, W.V./Martinsburg High School) had a tough finish through contact that got the crowd on their feet and sparked the Blazers' run. Johnson continued scoring down low and Lee kept getting it done at the free throw line. The Panthers looked to be stifled by Hood's defense, as they couldn't get much going. Hood led 40-29 leading into the final quarter.

Lee opened the fourth quarter on a scoring run of her own and scored nine of her 20 points on the night. Turnovers gave Ferrum a way back in the game after trailing by as much as 16 points.  In the end, Hood was able to win what felt like a free throw contest and Hold off the Panthers. The Blazers won their second consecutive game 58-50.
