Senior Zoë Tomlinson became just the third player in Colorado College women's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career rebounds while leading the Tigers to a 67-47 win over Pacific Lutheran on Saturday.
The consensus All-American joined Loma Kollmeyer and Debbie Nalty as the only two Tigers in program history to reach 1,000 career rebounds. Tomlinson now has 1,003 in her illustrious tenure and is 17 away from tying Natly, who is second all-time with 1,200. Kollmeyer has the most in program history with 1,099.
Tomlinson recorded a season-high 29 points, 18 rebounds, four blocks and two assists. It's the most points in a game for the New York native since putting up the same amount against Concordia Wisconsin on Nov. 25, 2023.
"We are all so happy for Zoë as she surpassed the 1,000 career rebound mark in today's game," head coach Katherine Auguste said. "She has worked extremely hard to achieve this incredible accomplishment. Zoë's consistency, competitiveness and determination make her a special player and it has been fun watching her excel early this season."
CC scored 40 of its 67 points from within in the paint. Healy Bledsoe was the only other Tiger to put up double-digit points. The Bend, Ore. native racked up 12 points, five rebounds and a season-high six steals.
Kayle Mackel and Isa Nelson combined for 14 points, three rebounds and five assists. Laura Strenk made an impact defensively, grabbing five steals, five rebounds and an assist.
Sophomore Willa McGlaughlin contributed a season-high seven points off the bench in only 11 minutes on the court. She finished with three rebounds and an assist.
"Willa also had a great day in the paint with a perfect effort from the field and several rebounds, all of which made a big difference as we competed against a very persistent and skilled PLU team," Auguste said. "Healy's work today also made a huge impact on both sides of the ball. Her nose for the ball on defense and desire to compete at a high level every second she is on the court led her to some great scores and stops alike."
CC took an 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tomlinson led the way with 12 points after shooting 5-9 from the floor. The Tigers shot 42.86 percent in the opening frame and held the Lutes to only 33.33 percent shooting.
In the second, the Tigers went on a 11-0 run with 4:50 left to take a 20-point lead, the biggest of the game at that point. A three-pointer by Bledsoe made it 33-13 to cap the run. The Lutes made a mini-run of their own over the second half of the quarter to cut the lead down to 11. CC entered the break up 36-25.
CC's defense played an impressive second half, limiting PLU to only 33.33 percent shooting in the third and 23.53 percent in the fourth.
Tomlinson put up another eight points in the third quarter to lead the team, followed by Nelson, who had four. CC had its worst shooting quarter in the third, making only four field goals, but ended strong in the fourth with its best offensive quarter, shooting 50 percent from the floor. CC led 52-36 at the end of the third.
Zoë grabbed four rebounds in the fourth quarter, including No. 1,000 with 8:37 left in the game.
From there, the Tigers continued to build on the lead up to a game-high 23 with 4:46 remaining after a Mackel layuo and CC eventually rolled to a 67-47 victory.
CC improved to 6-1 to start the year and is still undefeated at home after four games. It will take a week off before traveling to Houston, TX to take on St. Thomas in the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup of the season on Dec. 14.
