Vikings Finish CCS/SAA Classic 2-0 with Win over Piedmont

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Vikings completed the sweep at Sewanee's tournament, taking down CCS opponent Piedmont in their final game, 47-44.

Berry knew the Lions would be a tough rival as they were picked to finish second in their conference with two first place votes, coming off huge momentum from the night before winning by a buzzer beater.

However, this did not faze the Vikings, especially Elly Callihan who went off for 18 points with 9 rebounds, just shy of a double-double. Berry is now 3-0 to start their 2024-2025 slate, the best start of the NCAA Era!

Callihan's three triples came at timely points for the Vikings when in need of momentum. The start of the game was breezing by as they put up 18 points on the Lions, but Piedmont tightened their defense and held Berry to only two points in the second quarter.

After the half, Piedmont lit up posting 20 points in the third, but three three's in the fourth for Berry surged them to victory - two from Callihan and one from Callie Jackson.

Piedmont finally was able to crawl back and tie the game at 32 in the third and taking the lead with the next bucket. This lead lasted and boasted to as much as 10-points with still eight minutes to play. Berry dug deep and the duo of Callihan and Jackson took over, trading buckets until Berry had regained the lead at 44-42.

Late attempts from Piedmont were no good and the Vikings escaped by three.

Berry will return to action on Friday and Saturday at Centre College to take on Hanover and Maryville College in the Centre Classic.
