BRYN MAWR, PA – Cairn's Women's Basketball team fell against the Owls of Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, 72-41.
Starting the game, senior guard Kailee Sobrino (Vail, AZ / Empire) and sophomore forward Emily Brittin (Winslow, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) paired up for three rebounds, bringing the Highlanders back to only a two-point deficit after trailing early. Sophomore forward Dezaray Bright (Keystone Heights, FL / Keystone Heights) swished two jumpers to keep Cairn (1-5) close. Sobrino got back on the scoreboard, finishing off the first quarter with a jump shot and her first free throw of the game.
Into the second quarter, Cairn fell behind by as much as twenty-two. Brittin fought in the paint, getting their first bucket of the frame as Bright, in the same manner, got two more layups with the score at 40-19 going to half.
Bright and Brittin were again the primary scorers of the quarter in the third, along with Sobrino's three free throws as Bryn Mawr (7-2) outscored the Highlanders 20-8 in the frame.
With Brittin's consistent free throws, she got the Highlanders another four points for their last shot at redemption in the fourth. Sobrino, Bright, and Brittan each had one layup, fighting against the Owls' tall defense. With one second left on the clock, junior Tatiana Ipri (Mullica Hill, NJ / Gloucester County Christian) hit a buzzer beater jump shot as the Highlanders were overpowered, 41-72.
The Highlanders will take another strike at victory on Tuesday in their home and conference opener on their home court at 5 p.m. against the Valley Forge.
