GRINNELL, Iowa - The Grinnell College women's basketball team has been in existence since 1976, and the Pioneers had never reached triple digits in a game.
That all changed Friday night, as the Pioneers rolled over Maranatha Baptist University 106-35 at Darby Gymnasium.
The point total, which eclipsed the previous program best of 99 established in a game with Knox College in 2014, was one of just three school records to fall Friday. Grinnell's field goal total of 43 topped the record of 41 against Knox in 2013, and the 71-point margin of victory easily beat the old mark of 54 against Central Christian College of the Bible in 2022.
Accuracy was the name of the game for the Pioneers, as they made 58.1 percent of their field goal tries by going 43-of-74. That is the sixth-best percentage in program history.
Sara Booher '25 scored a career-high 19 points while shooting 81.8 percent from the field (9-of-11), a percentage that ranks eighth in program history. The Pioneers also dished out 26 assists, which ranks eighth, as well.
Adriana Perez '28 led Grinnell with 24 points with the aid of 10-of-13 field goal shooting including a 3-of-4 effort from 3-point land. Cassidy Pak '28 and Nora Lynch '28 were also in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Juniper Schwartzman '27 had a career-high 11 rebounds, while Booher grabbed eight boards and also had two blocks and a career-best three steals. Booher now has 535 career rebounds, which ranks seventh in program history. Nikki Ware '25 dished out eight assists, a career-high.
The game was never in doubt, as Grinnell shot out to an 11-0 lead right off the bat with Booher scoring all of the points. She made five close-range baskets and also had a free throw.
Grinnell kept it going from there, leading 28-6 after one period and 49-16 by halftime. The Pioneers pushed their cushion to 76-26 by the end of three periods.
The Pioneers closed in, and surpassed, the school-record point total in the fourth period. The record tumbled with 2:24 left as Perez drove for a layup for the 99th point. She was fouled on the play and scored the 100th point when she sank the ensuing free throw. Schwartzman added to the record with a basket and Perez sank two more.
At 5-1, Grinnell is off to its best start since the 2002-03 campaign. The Sabercats fell to 0-5.
Grinnell is back in action Tuesday when Buena Vista University visits Darby Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
