YORK, PA – The York College women's basketball squad got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 74-37 win over Penn College on Thursday evening in York.
The Spartans raced out to an 11-point lead after one quarter of play and cruised from there. The Green and White got double-doubles from Morgan Adams and Alyssa Hocker in the victory.
The Spartans improve to 3-3 overall while the Wildcats fall to 1-5.
How It Happened
• The Wildcats kicked off the game with a Rachel Teats three-pointer 47 seconds into the game. That would be the lone lead for the Wildcats as York responded with a 17-4 run to take a 10-point lead with 2:32 left in the quarter. Breana Grim hit a pair of threes on the run as the Spartans took control of the game. The Spartans took a 22-11 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Spartans hit four threes in the opening quarter to fuel the first quarter offense.
• York began the second quarter with an 8-1 run to push out to a 30-12 lead. Morgan Adams started the spurt with a three-point play while Alyssa Hocker put the finishing touches on the run with a three pointer. The Wildcats scored five of the next seven points before York ended the half by scoring the final six points of the quarter to take a 38-17 lead to the break.
• The Wildcats got off to a good start in the third quarter as they scored five of the first nine points of the period. The Spartans responded with a 9-0 run led by Grim's five points, growing the Spartan lead to 51-22. Penn answered with a 7-0 spurt of their own before Adams hit a lay-up with 48 seconds left in the quarter to give York a 53-29 lead at the end of three quarters of play.
• York started the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run to push the lead to 65-29. Adams had six points on the run for the Green and White. The teams went back and forth the rest of the way as York tallied nine of the final 17 points of the game for the 37-point win.

The Spartans head out on the road for a big non-conference test at #15 Gettysburg College on Tuesday evening in Gettysburg. The Bullets head into the weekend undefeated at 4-0 as they head to Marymount University to participate in the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament this weekend. The Bullets face SUNY Cobleskill in the opening round and then will play either Marymount or Baruch on Saturday. Tip time from Bream Gym on Tuesday is set for 5:00 pm.
