Ohio Wesleyan Goes to 3-0 with Win at Nazareth

Fifth-year guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) scored 12 points and fifth-year point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) added 8 more as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Nazareth, 27-13, during the second quarter and went on to a non-conference win on Saturday in Rochester, N.Y.

Junior guard Mia Guscoff (Canton/Massillon Perry) knocked down a 3-pointer to open the second-quarter scoring and kick off an 11-2 run that broke a 15-15 tie.  Denison followed with a pair of lay-ins and Homan sank 4 straight free throws for a 26-17 lead midway through the quarter.

Nazareth rallied with lay-ins by Madalyn Kelly and Sarina McDowell to pull within 29-23, but the Bishops assembled a 10-2 run that featured 2 free throws and a pair of 3-pointers by Denison and a steal and lay-in from Homan to extend the lead to 39-25.

The 14-point margin held as Ohio Wesleyan took a 42-28 lead at the intermission, and the lead would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the contest.

Sophomore post Macy Miller (Marysville/Milford Center Fairbanks) led the Bishops with 21 points, while fifth-year guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) added 17 points and grabbed a team-high 10 boards.  Denison finished with 14 points, Guscoff scored 13 points, and Homan dished out 6 assists and recorded 6 steals.
