WILLIAMSPORT, PA (November 16, 2024) – Senior Lauren Casey and junior Juleesah Hines both put up career numbers as the King's College women's basketball team held on to defeat Lycoming College, 60-55, on Saturday night in Williamsport. The Monarchs win their first road game of the season and improve to 2-1, while the Warriors drop to 0-2.
King's (2-1) cruised through much of the first quarter, leading by at least two possessions over the final 6:52 as they posted a 19-11 advantage through the first 10 minutes. The lead swelled to as much as 16, 29-13, off a layup from Hines with 5:17 to play in the second, but the host Lycoming (0-2) chipped away at the deficit to close within single digits, 35-26, heading into the break.
The teams traded buckets to start the third before King's went on a 5-0 spurt to go ahead, 44-31, with 7:11 remaining in the frame. The Warriors returned the favor to make it a two-point game, 47-45, with 28 ticks left, but a layup from Casey to end the quarter saw the Monarchs maintaining a 49-45 edge at the end of three.
An 8-4 run by Lycoming to open the final quarter saw the game tied at 53 with 3:49 to play. Casey hit a free throw, but the Warriors converted the pair for their next score to take the lead, 55-54, with 2:26 left. Hines bounced a beautiful pass across the paint and out of reach of the defenders over to Casey then converted a jumper from the foul line with 23 ticks to go to give King's the 58-55 advantage. Cadie Lewis was fouled and sunk both with six seconds remaining as the Monarchs held on to defeat Lycoming, 60-55, on the road on Saturday night in Lamade Gymnasium.
Casey recorded a career-high double-double of 25 points on 12-of-17 shooting and 12 rebounds, adding two steals, a block, and an assist, while Hines poured in a career-best 18 points on 8-for-9 shooting to go along with four steals, three dimes, and three boards. Lewis collected seven caroms with six helpers and three steals, while Alli Lindsay packed the stat sheet with five points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
Lycoming was led by Allison Fisher with 18 points, while Ashley Yoh added 11 with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal.
King's shot 48.1% (25-52) from the floor for the game, dishing out 16 assists on 25 field goals, while the defense limited Lycoming to 35.1% from the floor and 21.7% from three. The rebounding margin was tied for the game at 34 a piece, while the Monarch defense collected 14 steals off 20 Warrior turnovers. King's dominated the paint in the game, outscoring the host Lycoming 38-20.
The Monarchs will head out for their final road contest in their three-game stretch as they take on Widener University on Wednesday night. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m. in Chester, Pa.
