How it Happened
The Blazers entered a zone look against the Yellow Jackets, trying to press them at the perimeter. Waynesburg took what they could get and peppered from outside the arc at a 70 percent clip. All points scored in the first were scored via three with 7 down and in to put the opposition ahead 21-10.
The second quarter remained the same for the Yellow Jackets going 4-for-4 from deep and continued to outscore the Blazers and penetration into the zone resulted in floaters on target.
The second half found a new life for Hood starting with a three ball by Faust followed by a tough bucket by Lee to bring the shooting back up to speed. More productivity on the defensive side brought Hood good fortune in transition to break the defense and find the paint. The Blazers were only outscored 18-16.
The Yellow Jackets got comfy when the Blazers started to play their cleanest basketball in the fourth. Na'Vaye Quarles (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) heated up to spark what the Blazers needed to be to stay in the game.
Some late help checked in for the Blazers 16-6 run in the last 5:30 in the game. Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) cleaned up some shots off the mark and put them back in the bucket along with Stottlemire knocking down a late three and a pair of jumpers to end a game with a deficit on a high note. 17 of 23 points in the fourth quarter were scored off the bench and the Blazers outscored the Yellow Jackets for the first time all game in the final quarter.
