WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (11-14, 9-9 NJAC) wrapped up the 2023-24 regular season with a 69-50 home win over Ramapo (15-10, 11-7 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game Feb. 14.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With 5:45 remaining in the first quarter, a jumper by sophomore Renee Wells sparked a 12-3 William Paterson run that spanned the remainder of the frame to put the Pioneers ahead by double figures (20-10).
- The Pioneers added to their lead after opening the second quarter on a 7-3 run before going into the half up by 15 (37-22).
- William Paterson held an 18-point advantage (54-36) heading into the final quarter and pushed the advantage to 24 (64-40) following a 10-4 run that spanned nearly three minutes of action. The Pioneers' lead proved to be insurmountable as William Paterson secured the 69-50 home victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wells went 4-for-8 (.500) from the field with four rebounds.
- Senior Brianna Smith logged a 14-point outing with four rebounds, three steals and two assists.
- Freshman Mattison Chiera recorded 10 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds.
- Junior Jade Martinez and sophomore Patricia Walsh finished with seven points apiece.
- Freshman Menna Hafiz reeled in a game-high eight boards to pair with six points.
- The Pioneers capped their 2023-24 campaign with six consecutive wins.
