Huskey Records Double-Double in Loss to Huntingdon

MARYVILLE – Maryville's six-game win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon as the Scots fell to LaGrange 73-62 at the Cooper Athletic Center.
 
Emma Huskey led the way for Maryville, recording a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Those figures mark a season-high in scoring and match her season-high on the boards. The Sevierville-native now has four double-doubles this season.
 
MC was lights out in the first quarter, outscoring the Hawks 23-13 on 53.3 percent shooting (8-of-15) from the field. The Scots were unable to keep their momentum going though as the Hawks outscored Maryville 20-9 over the next 10 minutes of play. Huntingdon took its first lead of the game 33-32 on a layup from Briana McGruder.

The Scots and Hawks went back and forth in the third quarter, trading buckets for the full 10 minutes. Huntingdon's largest lead of the quarter was five with the scoreboard showing 45-40, but by the time the quarter expired, Maryville had battled back to tie it at 45-45.
 
The Scots continued to fight in the fourth quarter but were unable to keep pace with the hot-shooting Hawks. Huntingdon outscored Maryville 28-17, shooting 69.2 percent (9-of-13) in the quarter. MC was 7-of-16 in the quarter, good for a 43.6 percent mark of its own.
 
Maryville had a slight edge in the rebound battle, 38-37, but where Huntingdon really shined in the box score was bench points. The Hawks outscored MC 37-9 in that category, led by 17 points from Kinstin Davis.
 
Behind Huskey, Courtney Carruthers recorded 15 points and Ella Haney scored 13 to round out the double-figure scorers for Maryville. Carruthers led the defensive effort for the Scots, picking up four steals.

Maryville continued its strong free-throw shooting in the contest, going 10-of-12 from the charity stripe. The Scots lead the Collegiate Conference of the South with a 71.0 percent mark on the season, led by Carruthers who sits atop the CCS with a mark of 81.5 percent.
 
Maryville returns to action Tuesday night for a CCS matchup against Berea on the road. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
