Griffins Start First Two Quarters Strong, But Fail To Come Away With The Victory Over The Knights

Aston, Pa. - (1/27/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-13, 0-6) traveled to Neumann University (8-10, 2-3) as the Griffins have remained winless since December 8th, 2023. Gwynedd Mercy came out of the game hot as the team took a nine-point lead (35-26) lead into the locker room. The team finished the first half 14-of-30 (47%) from the field and held the Knights to 9-of-29 (31%). The Griffins had seven players record points in the first half and dominated the glass 24-14 after the first 20 minutes. Coming out of the locker room, Neumann switched up their strategy by playing full-court press which Gwynedd Mercy struggled with mightily. The Griffins would finish the game with only ten field goals and shoot 24-of-65 (36%) from the floor. In the end, it was the Knights who would finish the game with the hot hand as they would outscore Gwynedd Mercy 43-27 in the final two quarters and walk away with a 69-62 victory. Senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J) finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-17 (47%) bringing her total to 339 points on her senior season. Eggers also recorded three rebounds, one assist, and a steal.

Griffin Highlights:

  • The Griffins were efficient from the charity stripe as they shot 10-of-14 (71%) from the free throw line, but it was the Knights who racked up 25 free throw attempts knocking down 17 of them.
  • Neumann made the most of their second chance opportunities as the team finished with 16 second chance points compared to Gwynedd Mercy's five.
