Aston, Pa. - (1/27/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-13, 0-6) traveled to Neumann University (8-10, 2-3) as the Griffins have remained winless since December 8th, 2023. Gwynedd Mercy came out of the game hot as the team took a nine-point lead (35-26) lead into the locker room. The team finished the first half 14-of-30 (47%) from the field and held the Knights to 9-of-29 (31%). The Griffins had seven players record points in the first half and dominated the glass 24-14 after the first 20 minutes. Coming out of the locker room, Neumann switched up their strategy by playing full-court press which Gwynedd Mercy struggled with mightily. The Griffins would finish the game with only ten field goals and shoot 24-of-65 (36%) from the floor. In the end, it was the Knights who would finish the game with the hot hand as they would outscore Gwynedd Mercy 43-27 in the final two quarters and walk away with a 69-62 victory. Senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J) finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-17 (47%) bringing her total to 339 points on her senior season. Eggers also recorded three rebounds, one assist, and a steal.
Griffin Highlights:
- Gwynedd Mercy's bench outscored Neumann's 17-8 thanks to junior guard Alexis Eagan's (Drexel Hill, Pa.) ten points. Eagan finished with her second double-double of the season as Eagan also recorded ten rebounds, an assist, and a team-high two steals.
- The Griffins were efficient from the charity stripe as they shot 10-of-14 (71%) from the free throw line, but it was the Knights who racked up 25 free throw attempts knocking down 17 of them.
- Neumann made the most of their second chance opportunities as the team finished with 16 second chance points compared to Gwynedd Mercy's five.
Gwynedd Mercy continues their road trip as the team travels to Centenary University (N.J.) on Wednesday, January 31st, for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
