Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/24/2024) - Gwynedd Mercy University (7-12, 0-5) hosted Marywood University (8-10, 2-3) as the Griffins searched for their first Atlantic East Conference (AEC) win and to break their seven-game losing streak. After being down five points at the half, Gwynedd Mercy finished the third quarter with a 21-17 advantage to cut the lead to just one (53-52) entering the game's final ten minutes. The Pacers shot 8-15 (53%) from the field in the fourth quarter while the Griffins just shot 7-20 (13%) from the field, leading to Gwynedd Mercy's eighth straight loss as the team fell to Marywood 79-69. Senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) played a team-high 37 minutes in the contest, finishing 10-of-23 (43%) from the field and finishing with a game-high 23 points. She also accumulated two offensive rebounds and an assist.
Griffin Highlights:
- Freshman forward Angelina Balcer (Philadelphia, Pa.) transferred to Gwynedd Mercy in December and gave solid minutes off the bench for the Griffins as she finished with a career-high ten points on 3-of-5 (60%) shooting. Balcer also recorded a rebound, three assists, and two steals.
- Gwynedd Mercy struggled as Marywood crashed the boards hard all game as they finished with 18 offensive rebounds and 48 altogether. The Griffins were only able to grab 31 rebounds in the contest.
- With the defensive rebound struggles, Gwynedd Mercy allowed 18 second chance points including eight in the second quarter alone.
- Senior guard Ava Casale (Washington Township, N.J) finished with 12 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a game-high three steals.
Gwynedd Mercy's next contest will be a trip to Neumann University on Saturday, January 27th, for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
