HAVERFORD, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team wrapped up their two-game road trip with a matchup against Haverford Tuesday night, securing the regular-season sweep over the Fords with a 62-39 win. The win is the Blue Jays 15th straight dating back to November 14, tying the longest winning streak in program history set in the 2001-02 season.
Macie Feldman had a career-day on the offensive end, leading the way with a game-high 20 points to pair with eight rebounds and two assists. Also cracking double figures were Beth Corelli (13) and Michaela O'Neil (12), while Greta Milled paced Hopkins in both rebounds (11) and assists (4).
After a three-minute scoring drought to open the game, the Blue Jays (16-1, 12-0 Centennial) were the first to break the tie on a triple from Kara Milliken. Haverford (6-11, 3-9 Centennial) responded with their first points of the game on the ensuing possession before another 3-pointer — this time from Corelli who has hit seven threes in her last two outings combined — ignited a 7-0 run to put Hopkins in front 10-2. Both sides settled into their offenses from there, trading buckets to send the Jays into the first break in front 16-8.
Feldman kicked off the second quarter with a personal 5-0 run via a triple and pull-up jumper to give Hopkins its largest lead at 21-8 just over two minutes into the frame. The Fords brought it back within 11 with 2:21 to go before both offenses stalled, going scoreless for the remainder of the quarter to make it 27-16 at the half.
Haverford came out swinging in the third, quickly trimming the lead down to just seven despite four more points from Feldman. There with the response, however, were the Blue Jays who turned Milliken's second triple of the night into a quick 8-0 burst to go up 15. The offense cooled once again in the final four minutes of the half, with Haverford narrowly outscoring Hopkins 6-5 to enter the final frame down 44-30.
The trend of Tuesday's contest continued as it was Feldman opening the scoring in the fourth once again on a tough move in the paint to go up 46-30. With the lead still at 16, O'Neil, Feldman and Corelli combined to go on a game-sealing 11-0 run to give the Jays a commanding 59-32 lead. Free throws from Abby St. Onge and Maya Johnson put Hopkins up 62-36, with a trio of points for Haverford in the final minute resulted in the 62-39 victory.
The Blue Jays are back in action Thursday, Jan. 25 to take on McDaniel at home. Tip-off for the Centennial Conference matchup is set for 6 p.m.
