Berry Dominates Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Vikings Women's Basketball (9-7 overall, 3-2 SAA) took a road win over the Tigers of Sewanee (3-13 overall, 1-4 SAA) in their final game of the weekend on the road, 85-61.

With five players in double-figures, the Vikings had a scoring frenzy as they downed SAA opponent, Sewanee.

It all started with freshman, Ava Travis's layup after a stagnant opening two-minutes of play. The Tigers held tough and took their first and only lead of the game at 7-6. Sarah Wright reclaimed the Viking lead with a made jumper that would end up sealing the deal for a victory.

A 6-0 run until the last minute of the first quarter left the Tigers fighting from behind at 14-11.

Sophomore, Callie Jackson opened the second quarter with a bucket as she went on her way to score a new career-high 11 points against the SAA foe. Her basket began a nine to nothing run to boost Berry with momentum (23-11).

Kenadie Lee pushed the lead to 14, the largest lead of the first half after her second made three. The Vikings continued to roll on and held a 35-25 advantage heading into halftime.

Defense sparked energy for the Vikings offense as they set season highs in steals and points with 21 and 85, respectively.

Continuing to build on their lead, Berry had an outstanding 27-point third quarter that included five free throws and two three balls. Halfway through the third, the Vikings went up by twenty and before the beginning of the fourth they found themselves up 29 with a final second steal and lay-up from Elly Callihan (62-33)

The fourth quarter claimed no different as the deficit quickly hit thirty when Lee converted Karlee Armstrong's steal. Berry stayed a safe distance from the Tigers who tried to cut the lead but was unsuccessful as the Vikings took a 24-point road Victory.

The team will be back in action at home on Friday against Birmingham-Southern. Tip-off is 6:00 PM ET.
