LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates women's basketball senior captain Morgan Kennedy matched her career-high with 26 points and the Bobcats rolled to an 82-66 win over Hamilton Friday night in NESCAC action at Alumni Gym.
Bates (13-2, 2-0 NESCAC) took control of the game from the jump, setting the tone in the first quarter. The Bobcats sprinted out to a 27-13 lead by the end of the first, shooting 60% from three-point land. In a complete team effort on both sides of the ball, Bates also did not allow a single made three-point attempt in the quarter, massively contributing to their lead. Hamilton (12-4, 1-2 NESCAC) finished the game just 1-10 from long distance.
The Bobcats were able to keep Hamilton at arm's length in the second quarter. Outscoring the Continentals by one, Bates held on to a 15-point lead at 48-23 going into the half. Kennedy (Oklahoma City, Okla) led the team in both points and three-pointers made in the first half, with 12 and two respectively. She finished the game 7-8 from the field, 3-4 from three-point range, and 9-9 from the free throw line.
First-year Sarah Hughes (Rumson, N.J.) feasted on the glass in the first half, securing a team-leading five rebounds in only 10 minutes of work. She finished the game with eight points on 2-3 shooting to go along with her five boards.
The Bobcats continued their breakneck pace to start the second half. Kennedy scored seven points in the quarter and sophomore Elsa Daulerio (Harpswell, Maine) added six on her way to 18 points and a game-high eight rebounds on the night. Bates went up by as many as 25 points in the third quarter, taking a 65-40 lead on a pair of Hughes free throws with 4:35 left.
Coming into the fourth quarter with a 67-48 lead, Bates had the game well in-hand. Their well-run offense, led by Kennedy and Daulerio, kept the game at around a 20-point margin for most of the fourth quarter.
Three Continentals finished in double figures scoring. Emily Hall tallied 17 points on 8-13 shooting. Taylor Lambo scored 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Kendall Harris battled foul trouble but still finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday when they host No. 16 nationally ranked Amherst at 3pm.
