Camel Can't Get Past Trinity

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Connecticut College women's basketball team dropped a 62-50 decision to Trinity College on Friday night in NESCAC action at Luce Field House.

The Bantams (10-5, 1-1 NESCAC) led the entire second half and shot 39 percent for the game. Bria Fuller paved the way with 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals while Indi DelRocco and Reilly Campbell added 11 points apiece.

Addi Hunter (Saint George, Vt.) led three Camels in double figures with 12 points and grabbed five boards. Rebecca Oberman-Levine (Hamden, Conn.) contributed 11 points, six caroms and five assists and Catie Donadio (Clinton, Conn.) chipped in 10 points. 

Neither team led by more than four points in a first quarter that featured two ties and two lead changes. Campbell netted six points in the stanza as the Bantams led 13-11 after one.

In the second quarter, Trinity used a 10-0 run to take the lead for good. Samantha Slofkiss provided a pair of buckets during the stretch as the Bantams stretched the lead to 25-18 with 5:48 remaining in the half.

Conn stayed in the game thanks to consecutive baskets from Oberman-Levine and Donadio. Two minutes later, Mia Xerras (Charlotte, N.C.) tacked on a three-pointer that narrowed the deficit to 27-25. 
Melissa Whitmore made three free throws in the final 41 seconds of the half to give Trinity a 33-29 lead at the break. Trinity shot 48 percent in the half and forced Conn into 12 turnovers.

The Camels kept the Bantams in their sights for most of the second half, falling behind by nine in the third quarter before rallying back to within three early in the fourth. However, Trinity protected the lead down the stretch and sealed the victory with six free throws in the final 40 seconds. 

Conn College (5-10 overall, 0-3 NESCAC) will next play at Wesleyan University on Sunday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m.
