The Baruch College women's basketball team defeated the 4-time defending CUNYAC Champions Bulldogs of Brooklyn College, 61-56, in an exciting CUNYAC home contest on Wednesday night in the ARC Arena.
The Bearcats broke a 56-56 tie with 1:05 left by scoring the final five points for the victory that propels them to a 2-0 record in the early season CUNYAC schedule.
Mia Castillo connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 35 seconds left for a 59-56 lead.
Brooklyn missed their next two shot opportunities and also missed two free throws during their next possession that enabled the Bearcats to get the ball back.
Elissa Leung was quickly fouled and she hit both free throws for a 61-56 lead that finished as the final score to end a 14-game losing streak to Brooklyn.
Castillo led all scorers again with 31 points, while Leung had 12 points in the important home win.
D'Andre McRae finished with 14 rebounds and Prescious Mitchell had eight rebounds.
The visiting Bulldogs struggled with 23 turnovers. Alina Estrella led their team with 15 points.
