BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team hosted Muhlenberg in their return to Goldfarb Gym Saturday night, putting together their best offensive performance of the season to top the Mules 77-55 in front of the home fans. The Blue Jays' 77 points are a season-high and their third time surpassing 70 on the year, already more times than they did all of last season.
Both Elisabeth Peebles and Greta Miller eclipsed the 20-point mark to lead the game in scoring, with Miller's 20-piece and three 3-pointers both representing career-highs — Peebles' five deep balls were also a career-best mark. Macie Feldman had herself a career day, falling one point shy of her best point total of 12, while also corralling a game-high 10 boards to secure her first collegiate double-double. Hopkins was active on the defensive end all night, with three different players tallying a block while Michaela O'Neil led the way with a career-high four steals.
As a team the Blue Jays (6-1, 4-0 Centennial) shot 41.9% from the field and were impressive in all phases of the game, outscoring Muhlenberg 32-16 in the paint while also draining a season-best 10 3-pointers at a 40% clip. The Mules (6-3, 1-3 Centennial) shot just under 34% from the field and 29% from behind the arc.
The game was all offense from the jump, with Peebles opening the scoring with a three just 13 seconds in, only for Muhlenberg to hit their own shot from deep to level the scoring. Both sides traded buckets with a Mules jumper giving them a 7-6 advantage, but a layup by Jadyn Murray gave Hopkins back a lead they would hold the rest of the way. A Muhlenberg free throw cut the lead back to one after the Jays began to pull away, but an 11-2 run sparked by threes from Kendall Dunham and Peebles ended the first with Hopkins ahead 26-16.
Both offenses cooled in the second quarter with the sides combining for just 23 points, but it was the Blue Jays hitting their jumpers once again midway through the period to extend their lead on the hot hand of Peebles, who scored seven points in the stanza to send Hopkins into halftime up 39-26.
As has been the case for much of the season, the Jays made adjustments at the start of the half to put together a third quarter that all but put the game out of reach. Hopkins traded buckets to start the quarter, but with the score 46-34, the Blue Jays scored seven points in just over a minute on jumpers from Miller and Feldman to go ahead 53-34.
The Mules stopped the bleeding with a 5-0 run of their own, but a layup from Kara Milliken and another pair of 3-pointers from Peebles and Miller shot Hopkins up 20, with a pull-up jumper in the final minute from Feldman giving Hopkins its largest lead of the night at 63-42 heading into the fourth.
Miller scored five of the Jays' first six points in Saturday's final quarter to set a new career-best and extend Hopkins' lead to 22. The Mules cut it down to 19 before an extended 8-3 run with four points coming from both Feldman and Abby St. Onge pushing it back to a game-high 24. Muhlenberg hit a jumper with 1:18 to go and the game was scoreless from there, securing the 77-55 win for Hopkins to extend their streak to five, four of which have come by double figures.
Next up for the Blue Jays is a one-game road trip when they head to Lancaster, PA to face off against Franklin and Marshall Wednesday, Dec. 6, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
