Eggers Hits 1,000 Career Points as Griffins Win Final Home Game of 2023

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (12/6/2023) - Gwynedd Mercy University (6-4) hosted Albright College (3-4) in the Griffins final home game of the 2023 calendar year. After a slow start offensively for the Griffins in the first half only scoring 24 points and trailing by as much as 12 in the initial stages of the third quarter, Gwynedd Mercy was able to put together 23 points in the fourth quarter compared to the Lions eight and came away with the 69-63 victory. With only 5.4 seconds remaining in the game and Albright electing to intentionally foul, senior guard Lynzie Eggers (Washington Township, N.J.) went to the free throw line and hit both of her free throw attempts giving her a total of 21 points and allowing her to secure 1,000 career points in her collegiate career in front of the Griffin faithful.
 
Griffin Highlights:

  • Senior forward Natalie O'Neill (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with her first double-double of the season with a game-high 16 rebounds and 12 points. O'Neill also gathered two steals and an assist.
  • Graduate forward Sydney Kesselman (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a game-high four blocks as well as six points, seven rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Kesselman now has 28 blocks (2.8 per game) in ten games this season.
  • Most of the points for both the Griffins and Lions came into the paint as both teams totaled 58 points in the paint out of the 132 total points scored in the contest.
  • Eggers finished 5-of-11 (55%) from the field, 2-of-3 (66%) from three-point land, and 9-of-10 (90%) from the charity stripe giving her 21 total points in addition to three rebounds, an assist, and two steals. 
  • Eggers became just the 16th player in women's basketball program history to reach 1,000 career points.
