Knights Fall in Low-Scoring Affair with Skidmore, 45-29

Saratoga Springs, NY – The shooting woes that plagued the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team in the second half on Tuesday continued on Friday against Skidmore College, as the Golden Knights suffered a 45-29 defeat at the hands of the Thoroughbreds.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Liberty League while Skidmore moved to 5-2 and 1-0. Clarkson looks to regroup when the team takes on Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds, owners of the top scoring defense in the Liberty League entering Friday's contest, forced Clarkson out of its comfort zone on offense and held the Knights without a field goal in the first quarter. Although the Knights would score on free throws in the opening period, it wasn't until early in the second that Cassidy Dumont lifted the lid off the basket for the Knights with a field goal on Clarkson's first possession. The Green and Gold wouldn't let Skidmore increase its lead much in the second, though the Knights did head into the locker room down by double figures thanks in part to the tough first period.

While the Knights' offense might have struggled, the defense played well and nearly matched Skidmore, allowing the Thoroughbreds to make just 11 of 30 shots in the first half while forcing 11 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. The Knights nearly won the third quarter, but a late 3-pointer from Andi Levitz allowed Skidmore to maintain its 14-point lead through three periods.

Neither team shot particularly well in the fourth quarter, so the margin remained in double figures for the rest of the contest.

Cassidy Dumont led the Golden Knights with 12 points, Bella Doyle had seven points and seven rebounds, and Addie Kea contributed six points. Clarkson's defense forced 20 turnovers in the game.

For Skidmore, Julia Blanck and Andi Levitz kept the Thoroughbreds afloat, combining for 30 points. Blanck had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 9-for-16 from the floor, while Levitz scored 11 on 4-for-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers.
