Four Yellow Jackets End in Double Figures Against Virginia Wesleyan

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon took command of the game in the opening ten minutes in all facets of the game. Smith led in points with six, Elkins added five points, four rebounds and a steal. Virginia Wesleyan struggled on the offensive end as Maesyn Blayock had the only points of the period. The Yellow Jackets took a 15-2 lead into the second period. 
  • The Yellow Jackets continued its success in the second period outscoring Virginia Wesleyan 17-5. Emion Byers (Louisa County, Va./Louisa) and Davis led the charge with five points each. RMC would take a 32-7 lead into halftime. 
  • The third period was even as both teams put up 20 points in the third ten minutes. Mekayla Clarke, Grace Harriman and Blayock each notched five points for the Marlins. Morgan Miller (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and Bella Bruce (Herndon, Va./Westfield) also had five points each in the period to lead Randolph-Macon. The score stood at 52-27 advantage RMC going into the final ten minutes. 
  • Park scored five points in the fourth to lead all Yellow Jacket scorers. Juliana Anderson led the Virginia Wesleyan attack with six points and Logan Carter added four points. Randolph-Macon took home the victory 69-43 for back-to-back wins and second Old Dominion Athletic Conference win.    

Inside the Numbers:

  • Randolph-Macon shot 44.4% from the floor, as VWU knocked down only 28.6% of their shots.
  • The Yellow Jackets knocked down 38.9 percent of its three-pointers (7-of-18). The Marlins only made 5-of-17 shots from behind the arc. 
  • Davis notched a career high in points with ten in the game. The sophomore also grabbed three rebounds, while shooting 4-of-6 from the field. 
  • Smith and Park each led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 11. Smith pulled down six rebounds for a career high and dished out four assists. Park shot 50 percent from the field (5-for-10) and recorded three rebounds. 
  • Elkins scored ten points and grabbed seven rebounds in 16 minutes in the game. The double digit point night is the sophomore's fifth consecutive game in which she scored ten or more points. 
  • Bruce ended the night with seven points, four rebounds and an assist.
