Huskey Records Double-Double in 68-55 Loss

ATLANTA – Emma Huskey recorded her second double-double of the season Saturday afternoon as Maryville fell to Berry 68-55 on Day 1 of the Emory Classic in Atlanta.
 
Huskey recorded a season-high 13 points while grabbing 12 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Maryville shot just 25 percent (16-of-64) from the field and 17.2 percent (5-of-29) from beyond the arc. While the Scots struggled from the field, they were sharp at the charity stripe, shooting 18-of-23 (78.3%) on free throws.
 
The Sevier County High School product was second on the squad in scoring in the contest, behind her teammate Courtney Carruthers, who finished with 14 points and a team-high three assists. She also recorded a team-high six steals, her most since December 20, 2021, against capital (8) to lead the Maryville defense.
 
Despite their struggles on offense, Maryville was competitive for three of the four quarters in the contest. If you take out the 22-11 second quarter, Berry outscored the Scots 46-44 in the other 30 minutes of play.
 
Even for most of the second quarter Maryville was able to keep pace with the Vikings. After an 11-11 tie at the end of the first quarter, Maryville was able to take a 20-17 lead with 3:56 remaining in the second. A Berry three tied it at 20 before the Vikings went on a 13-2 run to take a 33-22 lead into the second half.
 
Maryville outrebounded the Vikings 41-33, primarily driven by a 21-6 margin in offensive rebounds. Huskey led the Scots with nine offensive boards. Maryville scored 13 second-chance points to Berry's six.
 
Maryville, now 1-2 on the season, will have the chance to even its record Sunday as they take on Swarthmore on Day 2 of the Emory Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
