Bears Cruise to 90-32 MASCAC Win Over Fitchburg State on Senior Night

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team cruised to a 90-32 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over visiting Fitchburg State University on Senior Night at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears improve to 18-6 on the season and 9-2 in the MASCAC. With the win, Bridgewater clinched at least a share of the MASCAC regular season title. The Falcons fall to 3-21 with the setback and 1-10 in conference play. Bridgewater has won 16 of the last 17 meetings of the two teams and 25 of the last 27. The Bears are also 66-17 all-time versus the Falcons since 1983.

Prior to the start of the game, the Bears honored seniors Emma Fenton (Monument Beach, Mass.) and Kylee Piche (Bridgewater, Mass.).

Piche paced Bridgewater State with a game-high 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting to go along with four rebounds and six assists. Senior guard Sydney Bradbury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) checked in with 13 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a game-best seven assists, while junior guard Caroline Tripp (Plymouth, Mass.) notched 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 23 minutes off the bench. Senior forward Sophia Gaucher (Lakeville, Mass.) added nine points, a game-high eight rebounds (five offensive) and four assists for the Bears.

Junior guard Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass.) paced Fitchburg State with nine points and three rebounds.

The Bears led from start to finish as they outscored the Falcons by at least 11 points in every quarter. Bridgewater shot 52.9% (37-70) for the game and connected on 7 of 17 (41.2%) three-point field goals.. The BSU defense forced 25 turnovers and held the Falcons to 19% (11-58) shooting. Eight of Fitchburg's 11 field goals came from behind the arc.

Both teams wrap up MASCAC and regular season play on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The Bears travel to MCLA to take on the Trailblazers, while the Falcons host the Owls of Westfield State University.

Notes: The MASCAC regular season title marks the Bears' first since the 2013-2014 season and eighth in program history....Bradbury moved into seventh place on the Bears' all-time list for made three-pointers (117).
