HIRAM, Ohio - February 13, 2023 - The Hiram women's basketball team had a balanced effort but fell short in a 70-59 loss to Kenyon on Monday evening inside Price Gymnasium.
The Terriers had 4 different players score in double-figures – including double-doubles from Haley Thompson and Ava Mory – but a late run by the Owls proved to be the difference.
Maddie Rakestraw and Anastasia Lawler were the other two players to reach double-digits, while Thompson filled the stat sheet for 10 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block over a full 40 minutes. For Mory, it marked her 3rd career game with 7 offensive rebounds.
Hiram jumped out to a lead that grew as large as 8 points, which was capped off by a 6-0 run to end the first half. The Terriers led 37-29 at the intermission, with the team having a heavy advantage in offensive rebounds and only 1 turnover during that span.
The Owls got back into the game in the second half, with Katie Orefice and Alyssa Gest finishing the contest with 23 and 22 points respectively. Anissa Hardy also had a double-double in the frontcourt.
Kenyon went on a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to take a 65-54 lead with 44 seconds remaining in regulation. Hiram battled hard in the final minutes before losing the tightly contested affair.
With the loss, the Terriers are now 3-9 in NCAC play, which ranks them 6th in the NCAC. Their current playoff matchup would be Ohio Wesleyan.
