The Hope College women's basketball team was buzzing at DeVos Fieldhouse from the start and took home a 95-18 victory against Olivet College on Saturday.
In front of a DeVos Fieldhouse crowd of 1,878, the nationally-ranked Flying Dutch Hope improved to 21-2 overall and 12-2 in MIAA play.
The Flying Dutch remain tied for first place in the league standings with Trine University, a 59-54 winner at Calvin University on Saturday.
Hope tied a DeVos Fieldhouse record for fewest points allowed, matching the 2020 mark in an NCAA Division III Tournament first-round win vs. Grove City University (Pa.).
The Flying Dutch surged to a 32-3 first-quarter lead fueled by a barrage of 3-pointers, including three from senior Kate Majerus, who nailed them from behind the arc in just 1 minute and 26 seconds.
Majerus, a native of Sycamore, Illinois (Sycamore), secured a 27-point lead for Hope with 38 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The forward would finish with 11 points after shooting 75 percent from the field, including sinking both shots from the free throw line and sinking 3 of 4 shots from the field.
Forward Savannah Feenstra helped propel Hope early against the Comets. The senior from Osecola, Indiana (NorthWood) tallied five of her game-high 13 points during the first half going 5 for 7 from the field and 2 for 3 from the free throw line.
Hope led, 48-7, at halftime.
Feenstra also collected a game-high nine rebounds, with five coming in as offensive rebounds for the Flying Dutch.
Freshman Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) scored 11 points off the bench for Hope. Vis also reeled in five rebounds in the win.
Three other Flying Dutch almost reached the double-figures mark with freshman Keegan Kaiser (New Albany, Indiana / Floyd Central), sophomore Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City) and senior Ella McKinney (Haslett, Michigan / Haslett) each tallying nine points.
Hope shot 55.4% from the field for the game and held Olivet (6-18, 3-12) to 13.3%.
The Flying Dutch head to Adrian College for an MIAA matchup on Wednesday, February 15 with a tipoff time of 6 p.m.
