NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Holding home court for the 36th consecutive time, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team improved to 21-0 with a 96-42 win over Regent University on Saturday afternoon, as part of the C2C Classic. The Captains had four players finish with a team-high 12 points in the balanced attack, all four of which came from first- or second-year players.

The Captains continued a home winning streak that started in December 2018 while also adding to a season-opening win streak that has now reached 21 games. It is the third longest roll in program history and the second in as many years to reach 20+ games.

CNU opened the game on a 20-2 run on route to the team's 12th wire-to-wire victory of the season. The Captains led by as many as 33 in the first half, 42-9, when Hailey Kellogg delivered a three-pointer off an assist by Ashley Steadman. Kellogg was one of seven Captains to combine for 12 made three-pointers in the game led by rookie McKenna Snively with four triples (4-5).

The Captains carried a 32-point edge into the locker room, outscoring the Royals in the first half, 47-15. CNU shot 51.3 percent (20-39) while holding Regent to just 31.8 percent (7-22) from the field. Camille Malagar led the way in the first 20 minutes with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Malagar was one of four Captains to finish the game with 12 points, knocking down 4-of-5 shots from the field including a pair of three-pointers. She notched 12 in just nine minutes of action. Off the bench, Snively had 12 on 4-of-5 from long range while fellow freshman Ashley Steadman poured in 12 on a pair of three-pointers and 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. Steadman added five rebounds and three blocks in the game. Rounding out the quartet of Captains with a dozen was sophomore Hannah Orloff, who finished with an efficient 6-for-8 showing, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

In the game, the Captains dished 26 assists on 38 made field goals led by six dimes from sophomore Alexia Lindsey. Lindsey also scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds in 17 minutes of action, going 3-for-3 from the field. Taylor Rawls added four assists and Hannah Kaloi, Kellogg, and Faith Henderson each chipped in three helpers.

All 14 active players got into the scoring column, including junior point guard Gabbi San Diego playing in her first game since suffering an injury on December 30. The Captains' floor general has missed eight games before returning to play 11 minutes against the Royals, finishing with four points and two assists. Starters Sondra Fan and Anaya Simmons did not play in the game in a coaches' decision.

Defensively, senior Katy Rader and junior Alivia Giles led the way with seven steals combined while all but two players logged at least one theft. Giles had a team-high four while Rader added three.

Regent was led by Desiree Cross, with 27 points while Brooke Glisson added 11 points for the Royals.

The C2C Classic will continue on Sunday, February 5 as the Captains host UC Santa Cruz (16-4) at Noon before Mary Washington faces Regent in the 2:00 pm game. Live stats and live scoring will be available at CNUsports.com
