ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women's basketball team had a resounding 75-54 win over Medaille University on Tuesday evening at the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

The Saxons (10-5, 5-4 Empire 8) built upon their lead in the second quarter shooting 46 percent from the field and widening the margin to a 10-point lead at the end of the first half.

Gillian Flint (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) scored a team-high 20 points to finish along with seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. Leah Harkenrider (Hornell, NY/Hornell) added 18 points of her own shooting 50 percent from three-point range with five rebounds and two steals.

"We did a pretty good job staying with it and playing the long game", Head Coach Mike Moskowitz said. "While they beat us at times in the press, we turned them over enough and converted off that well. We were more patient as the game went on and that led us to getting great shots inside and out."

The Saxons maintained their 10-point lead going into the fourth but eventually pulled away to seal the victory, outscoring Medaille 24-13 in the final period. This was largely due to their great shooting of 57 percent from the field and Flint's 12 points in the fourth quarter.

"Elmira is going to be a tough test on the road Saturday, but we are excited to get to work prepping for them tomorrow." Moskowitz said

Alfred University will return to action on Saturday for a conference clash at Elmira, with the tip-off currently scheduled for 2:00 PM.
