Wayne, N.J. (1/18/23) – Senior Shannon McCoy poured in a career high 41 points, while tying a single game record with 10 treys as the Kean University women's basketball team defeated host William Paterson University, 85-70, Wednesday night in NJAC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (9-8, 7-3 NJAC) and Pioneers (11-6, 6-4 NJAC) were in tight back and forth affair early before Kean used a 10-0 run late in the second quarter to push out to their first double-digit lead of the night. Kean held a 44-34 lead at the break.
McCoy had 16 first half points.
William Paterson pulled within five points (59-54) with 1:34 to go in the third frame before McCoy answered with her seventh three pointer of the evening and later a fastbreak bucket off a steal from Brittany Graff to put Kean back up to a double digit advantage.
The Pioneers again brought their deficit down to five points (67-62) early in the fourth quarter, but McCoy used the same formula and hit another trey for some breathing room.
Free throws down the stretch from Kayla Anderson, Graff and McCoy sealed the win for Kean.
