Fast start helps #25 W&J ease past Westminster for 15th straight win

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The 25th ranked Washington & Jefferson women's basketball team used a fast start offensively to roll to a 65-47 win over visiting Westminster College Wednesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Saltvitti Family Gymnasium. 

The victory stretches the Presidents' winning streak to 15 games, which continues to be its longest since 2002-03. W&J is 16-1 overall and 12-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The loss drops Westminster to 7-5 in the league and 11-6 overall.

Stellanie Loutsion (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) scored a game-high 17 points on a 6-of-10 shooting effort. Loutsion made a career-high four three-point field goals in five attempts. Adalynn Cherry (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) tallied 11 points to join Loutsion in double figures. Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) filled the stat sheet with a game-high 11 rebounds, a game-high seven assists and a game-high four steals to go along with six points. 

W&J came into this game on a hot streak and had no intention of slowing down as they got off to a quick lead and never looked back. The Presidents offense revved up quickly as they led 23-10 lead after the first quarter of play. W&J made 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) of its field goal attempts in the opening 10 minutes. Consecutive triples by Sydney Snyder (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville) and Cherry stretched W&J's lead to 23-8 with 46 seconds to play in the first quarter. 

The Presidents opened the second quarter with a 13-0 run to further distance themselves from the Titans. Alyssa Pollice (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) and Cherry both drained three-point field goals during the run. W&J made its first five three-point attempts in the game. Snyder added another trey in the second quarter as W&J's lead eventually swelled to 42-19 at halftime. 

The second half of play was more of the same. Loutsion accounted for the first five points of the third quarter. A few minutes later, Bryn Bezjak (Uniontown, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) dropped in a pair of two-point finishes on the fast break to stretch the lead to 29 points (51-22) at the 7:25 mark. Loutsion tacked on triples in consecutive possessions as W&J took a 58-36 lead into the fourth. 

W&J used a fast-paced game to take control, as they held a 22-4 margin in fast break points. The Presidents finished with 20 assists on 24 made field goals. W&J made 10-of-23 attempts from behind the three-point line.
