Ithaca, NY – The offense for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team was somewhat muted against 23rd-ranked Ithaca College on Saturday, as the Golden Knights fell to the Bombers 76-26 in Liberty League action.
The Green and Gold fell to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in Liberty League contests, while Ithaca improved to 12-2 and 7-0. Clarkson will look to get back on track next weekend when the team heads out on the road again for contests against William Smith College and RIT.
Ithaca utilized its size and depth early on, getting inside for layups and clean looks at the basket to jump out to a 17-2 lead in the first six and a half minutes. The Knights did get two more makes in the opening quarter and kept the gap at 15 until the final minute when the Bombers got two late baskets for a 19-point edge. Clarkson's offense found a groove early in the second, but Ithaca's defense clamped down over the final seven minutes, holding the Knights without a point for the remainder of the period.
The second half proved more of the same, as Clarkson was held under double digits in all four quarters.
Sophomores Veronica Tache and Cassidy Dumont each scored eight points to lead the Knights, while Elaina Porter also tossed in seven points and added eight rebounds. Twelve different players scored for the Bombers, led by Lindsey Albertelli, who had 13 points. Camryn Coffey also added 10 points for Ithaca.
The 26 points scored by Clarkson was the fewest by the team since the 1982-83 season when the team was held to that total or fewer on two occasions.
