Buffalo, NY – First-year collegian Bella Doyle posted season-highs in both points and rebounds as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team earned its third straight win in 2023, defeating Buffalo State 74-65 in non-league action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights evened their overall record at 5-5 while Buffalo State fell to 1-13. Clarkson starts a seven-game road stretch this weekend when the team takes on Rensselaer and Ithaca.

The Knights got off to a slow start after the long bus ride, making just two shots in the first seven minutes of the contest, but Clarkson kept things close in the opening quarter by going 6-for-8 from the free throw line. The second quarter saw Clarkson get on a roll, with Elaina Porter providing the spark. The senior made a pair of 3-pointers in the first 75 seconds to give Clarkson the lead, and Bella Doyle's layup at the 8:02 mark put the Knights up by eight. Near the midway point of the quarter, Porter hit another 3-pointer from the wing to give Clarkson its biggest lead (30-21), but the Bengals held the Knights to just two points for the rest of the period to make it a five-point game at the half.

Clarkson enjoyed a 23-point third quarter and quickly built a double-digit lead thanks to an 8-0 run to begin the period. Although Buffalo State would reduce the margin to seven on a layup from Brianna Smith at 4:30, Clarkson ended the quarter on a 12-2 run, which included nine points from freshman guard Raelin Burns.

At the start of the fourth, the Bengals drew to within 10 thanks to scoring the first seven points of the period, but a 3-pointer from Bella Doyle at the 8:31 mark put the Knights back to an advantage in the teens, where it would remain for the majority of the period. It wasn't until late in the quarter when the Bengals began to put pressure on the Knights in the backcourt that the contest would tighten up, as the gap fell just eight with a little over a minute to go. Clarkson made enough of its free throws in the final moments to secure the victory.

Bella Doyle finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Clarkson, also adding in two blocked shots and a steal in the victory. Elaina Porter, Cassidy Dumont, and Raelin Burns each scored 14 points for the Knights, while Mariah Benavides also finished in double figures with 11 points.

Brianna Smith led the Bengals with 16 points while both Tashawni Cornfield and Adiya Jones each chipped in 15 points.
