HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Emma Wax (Pine Brook, N.J.) scored 11 of her game-high 18 points to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 49-43 win over the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this afternoon on Ogrodnik Court in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity, ranked No. 22 in the nation, came back from a 41-31 deficit after three quarters to outscore the Polar Bears, 18-2, in the final stanza to improve to 13-1 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC.  No. 25-ranked Bowdoin drops to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.  Trinity hosts league rival Connecticut College in its next game on Friday at 7 p.m.
"I'm so proud of this team for their resilience down the stretch," said Trinity Head Coach Emily Garner. "The execution defensively in the fourth quarter fueled our offense and created the spark we needed to take this game. All credit to Bowdoin.  They are a phenomenal team with a great game plan. Our team never stops believing, and we can't say how proud we are of them."
Wax opened the fourth quarter with a jumper, followed by a three-pointer by rookie guard Theresa Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.) and another by Wax.  Sela Kay answered for Bowdoin but four points in a row by Wax tied the game at 43-all with 4:40 left on the clock.  Trinity junior C Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) scored on a put-back in transition after making a steal to give the Bantams a 45-43 lead at the 3:31 mark and Wax added another jumper just over a minute later.  Trinity's defense did not allow a field goal over the final 3:52 of the game and senior guard Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) put it away with two late free throws.
Bowdoin came out strong and led, 17-8, after one quarter thanks largely to six points by Callie Godfrey.  The Polar Bears maintained at least a six-point lead in the second quarter and led, 28-18, at the break.  Trinity managed just six field goals in 28 attempts in the first half.  The Bantams battled in the third quarter and cut their deficit to six points at 37-31 on a Campbell layup, but Bowdoin scored the last four points before the final break.  Campbell joined Wax in double figures in scoring for Trinity with 11 points and grabbed a game-high 14 boards to go with two blocks.  Wax added five rebounds and three steals, while sophomore guard Hannah Marzo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) contributed eight points, five rebounds, and three assists for Trinity.  Jess Giorgio paced Bowdoin with 13 points, Annie Boasberg grabbed nine boards, and Sydney Jones dished seven assists for the visitors.
