STAUNTON, Va. – EMU put a wrap on 2022, Friday, as they took the short drive down 81 to Staunton for a matchup with Mary Baldwin.
Four Royals scored in double figures en route to a 65-58 road win over the Fighting Squirrels.

Highlights
First Quarter
Brii Redfearn got things started, nailing a three early on and giving EMU a 3-0 lead. MBU went on a 6-0 run to take a two-point lead but EMU answered with a run of their own, 13-2, highlighted by four points from Tiffany Carey and three points from Mya Hamlet and Jayda Jones, to take a 19-10 lead after one.
Second Quarter
A Laila Glymph layup extended the Royals lead to 11 to start the second quarter before the Fighting Squirrels scored seven straight to pull within four. The teams traded buckets with Hamlet making a jumper and MBU answering with a free throw, to send the teams to the locker room with EMU ahead 27-22 at the half.
Third Quarter
The Royals opened up their lead to start the third with points from Redfearn and Glymph, to take a 33-22 lead. Mary Baldwin then caught fire, going on a 13-0 run and taking their first lead since early in the first quarter. Carey's free throw pulled EMU within one before Lauryn Moore's clutch three gave EMU the lead back, 37-35. Another three from Redfearn pushed the lead to five and EMU went to the final frame up 41-37.
Fourth Quarter
MBU was able to go back on top to start the fourth before another big three from Moore and a pair of free throws from Carey gave EMU a slim one-point lead. The teams traded points to Mary Baldwin leading 50-49 but the Royals answered with seven straight, including another three from Moore and four from Glymph. The Fighting Squirrels were able to claw back to within four but that was as close as they'd get as EMU hit most of their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

EMU will be back into ODAC play on Wednesday as they open 2023 with a matchup at Randolph-Macon. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
