WASHINGTON, D.C. — Three Cardinals scored in double figures as Catholic women's basketball started off the season with a 55-47 over Dickinson on Tuesday night.

Erin Doherty led the way for the Cardinals with 16 points while grabbed a joint-team-high seven rebounds. Carly Mulvaney and Rachel Bussanich notched 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Catholic began the game on a 7-0 with Mulvaney scoring the first five for the Cardinals. After Dickinson was assessed an administrative technical foul in the pregame, Mulvaney knocked down two free throws before cashing a three on Catholic's first offensive possession.

The game remained tight throughout the first half, with Dickinson continuously remaining within one point of the Cardinals but never taking the lead.

After beginning the fourth quarter with a three-point lead, Catholic outscored the Red Devils 16-11 to clinch the victory. Doherty scored six of her 16 in the final 10 minutes while Keegan Douglas grabbed four important rebounds in the final stanza.

A significant difference in the game was free-throw efficiency. The Cardinals shot 14-for-17 from the line while Dickinson faltered at the charity stripe, only converting 5-of-10 attempts.

Mulvaney and Douglass were aggressive on the glass, each securing three offensive rebounds. Bussanich forced three steals while Erin Thompson provided good minutes off the bench, scoring six points.

Catholic will now head on the road for the first time this season. The team will participate in the York Tournament on Nov. 12-13, where the Cardinals will face Stevens and York (Pa.).
