Three Bullets Earn All-CC Honors, Davis Named Coach of the Year

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team featured three players on the All-Centennial Conference Team and Head Coach Nate Davis was named the Coach of the Year for the second time in his career it was announced on Wednesday, March 2.
 
Senior Carly Rice (Pennington, N.J./Pennington) was named to the all-conference team for the second time and was a first-team selection this winter. Senior Mackenzie Tinner (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) earned her first postseason award as a second-team honoree, while freshman Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem east) grabbed honorable mention notice.
 
Rice was an honorable mention all-conference pick as a sophomore and jumped up to the top team after leading Gettysburg and ranking seventh in the league with 12.7 points per game. The senior guard has scored in double-figures 16 times, including six 20-point efforts. Rice ranks third in the CC in total three-pointers made (41) and is shooting 84.5 percent from the free throw line. She scored a career-high 28 points in a win over Stevens Institute of Technology and dropped in 22 points against Washington College in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
 
Tinner capped the regular season in strong fashion, posting double-figures in seven of the final eight games and earning CC Player of the Week honors in the final week. She has raised her season scoring average to 10.1 points per game and leads the conference in field goal shooting at 52.3 percent. The 6-1 forward also ranks fourth in blocks per game at 1.9. Tinner scored a career-high 21 points at McDaniel College on Feb. 16 and was named the CC Championship Most Valuable Player after posting 16 points against Johns Hopkins University in the title game.
 
Szlosek was one of two freshmen to make the all-conference team. She was the only Gettysburg player to start all 27 games and finished the year averaging 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Szlosek ranks fifth in the conference in assists per game and she ranks among the top 20 in points, rebounds, and steals. She tallied a season high 20 points in wins over Johns Hopkins and Ursinus this season.
 
Davis was named the CC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career after leading Gettysburg to the conference regular season and tournament titles. Gettysburg nearly ran the table during the CC regular season with a 19-1 record and heads into the NCAA playoffs sporting a 24-3 record. The Bullets lead the conference in points per game (62.3), field goals made per game (23.6), field goal percentage (40.4), three-point percentage (30.6), defensive rebounds per game (31.9), and assists per game (13.7). The team leads all of Division III in field goal percentage defense (28.2) and ranks fifth in the nation in scoring defense (47.1 ppg). Davis, who was named Coach of the Year in 2017-18, is 133-32 (.806) in seven years at Gettysburg and has led the Bullets to five consecutive 20-win seasons.
 
Gettysburg heads to the NCAA Division III Championship for the fourth consecutive season and will host the first and second rounds this weekend (May 4-5) in Bream Gym. The Bullets face SUNY Morrisville (19-7) on Friday at 7 p.m., while Baldwin Wallace University (21-4) meets Salisbury University (20-6) in the first game at 5 p.m. The two winning teams will face off on Saturday at 6 p.m.
