Cannistraci, Huston Earn All-AMCC Honors

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – Two Penn State Altoona women's basketball players received all-conference recognition on Tuesday afternoon, when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced its postseason awards.

Senior forward/center Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) was voted to the first team of the All-AMCC squad, while junior guard Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) earned third team All-AMCC honors.

Cannistraci capped her four-year Penn State Altoona basketball career with an excellent senior season that saw her play in 23 games, making 22 starts, while becoming the Lions' all-time leading scorer. The senior forward led the AMCC this season in points per game (17.0) while also ranking first in free throw percentage (81.7), second in field goals made (150), third in free throws made (85), blocks (30), blocks per game (1.3), and points (392), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4), 10th in assists (61) and assists per game (2.7), 13th in points per 40 minutes (18.3), 14th in rebounds per game (6.6) and defensive rebounds (108), 15th in field goal percentage (40.7), 17th in total rebounds (151), 23rd in steals per game (1.4), 24th in offensive rebounds (43), and 26th in steals (32). She also earned an AMCC Player of the Week award on December 13.

Cannistraci became the Penn State Altoona women's basketball program's all-time leading scorer on December 8 in a game at Mount Aloysius College, and she finishes her collegiate basketball career with a team-record 1,503 points scored in four seasons. She also holds career team records for field goals made (539), field goals attempted (1,324), free throws made (349), blocks (138), and minutes (3,297).

This is Cannistraci's third career selection to an All-AMCC team, earning first team honors each time.

Huston had a strong year at both ends of the court for Penn State Altoona, as the junior guard played in all 25 games while making 22 starts. In the conference this season, she ranked second in steals (64) and free throw percentage (79.5), third in steals per game (2.6), assists (108), and assists per game (4.3), ninth in free throws made (58), 10th in three-point field goal percentage (30.3), 14th in three-pointers made (27), 19th in offensive rebounds (52), 20th in defensive rebounds (90) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.0), 21st in total rebounds (142) and rebounds per game (5.7), 22nd in points (247), 25th in points per game (9.9), 26th in field goal percentage (32.4), and 27th in field goals made (81). During the season, Huston earned AMCC Player of the Week awards on December 6 and February 14.

This is Huston's first career selection to an AMCC all-conference team.

Penn State Altoona women's basketball team went 7-18 overall this season, including a 6-10 mark in the AMCC that put the Lions in sixth place in the conference's regular season standings. The team earned a berth into the AMCC postseason tournament and suffered a first-round loss to Pitt-Greensburg.
