Hawks Rally to Top Wolves in Women’s Basketball

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost at home on Friday night to Hartwick College 75-43 in an Empire 8 matchup at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (1-22, 0-15 Empire 8) was led by Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield) with 12 points.

The Wolves got out to a fast start. Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) hit the first three for the Wolves for the early lead and Keuka led throughout the quarter. Later, Amelia Poole drove and kicked to Brown in the corner for another three. Katherine Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) drove and found Jenna LaMere (Scottsville, N.Y. / Wheatland-Chili) under the basket for a layup to make it 14-7 with 2:30 left in the first. The Green and Gold would score 20 in the frame as they led 20-14 after one.

Hartwick College cut into Keuka's lead early in the second. The visitors tied it at 22-22 minutes into the quarter. The Hawks took the lead with a three on the next possession and pushed their lead to 34-22 as the Wolves were held off the scoreboard for nearly seven minutes. A corner three by Julia Bauder (Cazenovia, N.Y. / Cazenovia) snapped the skid for the Wolves. Hartwick College would lead 38-27 at the half.

The Hawks extended their lead, scoring the first 17 of the half to extend their lead. Katherine Deatherage hit a free throw line jumper with six minutes left in the third to end the Keuka slump. The Wolves were outscored 25-6 in the frame and trailed 63-33 going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was slow as both teams scored just five points in the first half of the quarter. The Wolves hit a pair of threes in the frame but the Hawks kept the game out of reach as Hartwick defeated Keuka College 75-43.

  • Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) was second on the team in scoring with eight points. The junior transfer surpassed 200 points for this season
  • Jenna LaMere led the Wolves with six rebounds in the game. LaMere now has over 100 rebounds for her career
  • Amelia Poole hit a pair of threes to pace her 12 points. The senior now has 45 on the season, tying for ninth on the single-season list for Keuka College

Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College will play their final game of the 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon as the Wolves host Russell Sage College at 2 p.m. Before the game, there will be a ceremony honoring Amelia Poole, the lone senior on this year's team.
