BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Abby Cavallaro dialed up 16 1st-quarter points as the University of New England raced out to a 34-6 cushion on the way to an 81-37 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball victory over Gordon College at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Wednesday evening (Feb. 16).

Triumphant in seven straight, the Nor'easters (16-8, 14-3 CCC) secure the second seed for the upcoming league championship before the regular-season finale on Saturday at Wentworth Institute of Technology (2-15 CCC). The result put a halt on Gordon's five-game streak, dropping the Fighting Scots to 10-13 overall and 8-9 in CCC matches.

Cavallaro drilled 6-of-11 treys during the initial 20 minutes and accounted for all but two of her 24 points; she also totaled six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Cavallaro has averaged 21.2 points over her last five outings, largely behind 26 three-pointers.

Jordyn Franzen did a little of everything for the hosts, racking up 15 points, seven boards, six assists, and four steals. Kaylee Beyor amassed her third career double-double, scoring 12 to go with a personal-best 13 caroms. Allie Goodman tossed in eight points, and Sierra Tartre sank a couple triples for six points, with six rebounds and four assists. For the contest, UNE established sizable margins scoring in the paint (30-10) and controlling the glass (52-28).

It was 47-14 in favor of the Nor'easters by halftime, with the hosts tallying 23 points off 11 Gordon turnovers while limiting the visitors to a mere 17 percent shooting accuracy (4-of-23). The 34 points scored in the opening frame was UNE's highest single-quarter production of the season, by six.
