DULUTH, Minn. – The Carleton College women's basketball team earned its season-best third consecutive victory, this one a 58-42 victory at the College of St. Scholastica. Three Knight starters scored in double figures in the victory, which also resulted in the fewest amount of points Carleton has allowed in a game this season.
Jasmine Choi, Emma Henry, and Aiana Whitfield combined for 41 points for the Knights (8-12, 7-10 MIAC), nearly outscoring the entire St. Scholastica (1-18, 1-16 MIAC) side by themselves.
Choi stuffed the stat sheet yet again, picking up 20 points, six steals, four rebounds, and a pair of assists. She connected on 2-of-4 attempts from beyond the arc after only making two shots from long distance over the season entering the game. This was her fourth game with at least 20 points over the last five contests.
Henry notched her first career double-double, tallying 10 points to go along with team highs of 11 rebounds and four assists. Whitfield chipped in 11 points and was 1 of 5 Knights with a multi-steal game.
While the Saints did jump out to a 9-4 lead to begin the game, the Knights found their footing shortly after and never let up. A 13-0 burst from Carleton gave the Knights an eight-point advantage late in the first quarter, a lead which the Knights would never relinquish. Jill Yanai scored six of her eight points during the run, which spanned more than five minutes of game time.
A 12-5 response from the Saints, stretching into the opening minutes of the second quarter, cut the Knights' lead to 2-21, but Carleton's offense was once again able to quickly create some separation. Henry (6 points) and Whitfield (4) accounted for all of the scoring during a 10-0 run that gave Carleton a comfortable 32-21 advantage. The Knights entered the halftime intermission holding a 32-24 lead.
Both teams went scoreless over the first 2:30 of the second half, until a Yanai layup restored Carleton's double-digit lead at 34-24. A 7-3 spurt from St. Scholastica cut the deficit down to two possessions, but Carleton was quickly able to bring it back to 12 via a 6-0 run of their own.
The visitors entered the fourth quarter leading, 43-34.
Choi drained a 3pointer of Carleton's first possession of the fourth quarter, and the Knights maintained at least a 10-point advantage the rest of the way.
The Knights shot only 35.6 percent on the day, but they limited the Saints to just 29 percent shooting. Carleton surrendered the ball only 11 times compared to 23 for St. Scholastica, leading to a 24-8 edge in points off turnovers.
The Saints were paced by Miranda Broberg's 12 points, as she went 4-for-8 from 3-point range.
