WESTON, Mass. -- The University of New England women's basketball team used an 18-6 3rd-quarter stretch to distance itself from Regis College and secure a 60-42 victory on Sunday (Nov. 28) at Higgins Court.
Winners of three in their last four, the Nor'easters (3-5) led almost the entire way, aside from the Pride holding an 18-17 edge for more than four minutes in the middle of the 2nd period. UNE notched the last seven points before halftime, though, to gain the advantage for good (24-18).
Regis put the first four points on the board following intermission (24-22), but the visitors tallied the next nine (33-22) and never looked back. The spread was 46-32 after 30 minutes, and remained in double digits through the final buzzer.
Kaylee Beyor registered 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals to pace the Nor'easters, while Jordyn Franzen contributed 13 points, six caroms, and five assists. Abby Cavallaro added nine points, five rebounds, and four steals to the triumphant cause.
Apart from going 3-of-18 from the floor in the 2nd frame, UNE shot just below 50 percent (21-for-44) the rest of the time.
The Pride (1-4) received 11 points and five steals from Courtney Doherty. Arie Searcy totaled eight points and nine rebounds. Regis was hindered by 29 turnovers, which the Nor'easters converted into 22 points going the other way.
