BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior guard Katie Villarini (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) of the Buffalo State women's basketball team earned her second national honor of the season, as she was named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week Tuesday afternoon following a stellar performance last weekend.
The Team of the Week presented by Scoutware is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, in its 25th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.
Villarini tallied a career-high 36 points, shooting 13-of-17 from the field and 5-of-9 from 3-point range in Buffalo State's 73-59 victory at Fredonia last Friday. The co-captain added 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals. The 36-point outing was her second of the season, as she finished with 36 points against Oneonta on Jan. 14. Villarini was also named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Dec. 13.
Villarini has scored 20 or more points on 10 occasions this season, and remains among the national leaders in several categories, including scoring (fifth, 23.6 points per game), free throws made (fifth, 97 made), and assists (23rd, 5.0 assists per game). The Bengals (9-7, 6-4 SUNYAC) travels to Geneseo on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., before hosting New Paltz on Friday and Oneonta on Saturday.
