WORCESTER -- The WPI women's basketball team picked up its 15th victory of the season with a 76-46 win over Emerson on Sunday afternoon at Harrington Auditorium. This marks the fastest to 15 victories since the 2016-17 season when the Engineers were able to accomplish the feat in 17 games as well.  

The Engineers (15-2, 4-1 NEWMAC) were paced by a 14-point, five rebound effort from Lisa Cristiano (Valhalla, NY) while Melanie Presseau (Manchester, NH) added 13 points, including a 3-for-3 clip from deep.  

Both Alex Scariati (Scotch Plains, NJ) and Emily Raynowska (Brentwood, NH) added 11 points, with Scariati dishing out seven assists and Raynowska pulling down five rebounds additionally. Thirteen total Engineers recorded a basket in the win.  

The 30-point win was their sixth such victory this season (30+ points) and second in the last three outings.  

Emerson (7-10, 3-1) fell for the first time in conference action, but was led by a 13-point effort from Olivia Deslauriers (West Hartford, CT) while Chelsea Gibbons (Foxborough, MA) added eight points and five rebounds.  

On the first possession of the game, Scariati knocked down a trey just 10 seconds into the game, setting the tone for the day. The Engineers ultimately began the game on a 6-0 run after a Cristiano and-one before the Lions were able to get on the board. Emerson battled to tie things at 11-all with 3:35 in the first quarter, but would never lead in WPI's wire-to-wire victory.  

A 14-1 run in the middle of the second quarter gave WPI a 39-20 advantage. The run saw even distribution between the Engineers who netted the majority of the points in the paint. Alice Kelly (Wethersfield, CT) led the way with four points while Scariati, Victoria Mirecki (Washingtonville, NY), Adrianna Niles (Tewksbury, MA), Cristiano and Presseau all added a bucket. Ultimately the Engineers led 45-24 at the half.  

The third quarter saw an 11-3 run at the end of the frame to propel WPI's lead to 31 with 10 minutes to go. But the fourth quarter was a back and forth affair with the teams trading baskets throughout the entirety of the final 10 minutes of action.  

WPI will look to continue its winning ways with its first game in February when they head to Wellesley on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 7pm. Emerson is also back in action on Wednesday night at 7 when it plays host to Babson.
