Women's Basketball: Bison Win Streak Snapped by Wolverines

Grove City, Pa. – In a game of lead changes and runs, the Bethany College Bison were outlasted by the Grove City Wolverines Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines used a 10-0 run to seal a 78-74 victory over the Bison. Bethany's sophomore Makenzee Mason led the Bison with 25 points and freshman Lindsey Garrison added 22 points.

GAME FLOW

  • Like much of the game, the first few minutes of play was a tight back and forth battle before the Bison took an 18-8 lead with 2:34 to go in the first stanza.
  • The Wolverines began to gain momentum in the final minutes of play in the first, cutting the Bison lead 20-14 at the end of one. Bethany's Lindsey Garrison led all scorers with 10 points in the first quarter.
  • Grove City continued momentum in the second quarter, using a 17-3 run to take back the lead.
  • After trailing by eight, the Bison battled back and cut the lead to 31-30, after Makenzee Mason nailed a three.
  • After a pair of free-throws from Mason, the Bison regained the lead 32-31.
  • In the final minutes of the first half, the lead see-sawed back and forth with the game deadlocked at 35-35 heading into halftime.
  • To start the second half, Bethany regained the lead, 37-35 after an Alexis Heap jumper..
  • Moments later, Alexis Heap hit her eighth point of the third giving the Bison a 46-41 lead.
  • The Wolverines battled back to take back the lead, 47-46.
  • Grove City pulled ahead in the beginning of the fourth but Bethany continued to grind back.
  • The game see-sawed in throughout the fourth. Mason knotted the game at 68-68 with 4:13 to go in the game. Mason hit the free-throw to give the Bison the lead, 69-68. 
  • After the Bison led 74-68, the Wolverines used a small run to reclaim the lead 75-74 with .37 seconds to go and pulled ahead 77-74 with 20.7 seconds to go.
  • The Bison had open opportunities to tie the game but were unable to capitalize and the Wolverines held on for a 78-74 win.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Makenzee Mason led the Bison with 25 points, shooting 13-for-15 from the foul line.
  • Lindsey Garrison added 22 points, shooting 4-for-8 from behind the arc.
  • Alexis Heap contributed 10 points and a team high nine boards. All of Heap's points came in the second half.

IN THE GAME NOTES

  • Freshman Lindsey Garrison currently has 57 made three-pointers this season. She needs 15 three-pointers to tie the single-season three point record set by Hayley Holenka (2015-16).
