Hood falls to No. 17 Messiah

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team dropped a 70-34 final to No. 17 Messiah in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.  

 
Inside the Box Score   

  • Marlise Newson finished with 18 points on 8-of-17 shooting. 

  • Nikki Etchison grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. 

How it Happened 

  • The Falcons got going early in the first quarter with a 9-2 run in the opening eight minutes. Back-to-back layups by Newson cut the deficit to five points to head into the second quarter,11-6. 

  • Messiah used a 19-2 run in the second period to leada 30-8 lead at half. The Falcons limited the Blazers to one field goal in the quarter, a layup by Newson. 

  • The Falcons outscored the Blazers 25-13 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 34 points going into the fourth period (55-21). The Falcons maintained the lead in the fourth quarter and cruised to the win. 

Analysis 

  • Messiah outrebounded Hood 52-23. 

  • The Falcons held the advantage 32-22 in points in the paint and 19-7 in points off turnovers behind 10 steals. 
     

For the opponent  

  • Leah Springer led the Falcons with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added 14 rebounds. 

  • Amber High finished with 13 points. 

  • Morgan Adams scored 12 points with nine rebounds and a pair of blocks. 

  • Chloe Milanesi grabbed 12 rebounds. 
     

Notes 

  • Hood slipped to 5-10 on the season and 2-6 in the MAC Commonwealth, while Messiah improved to 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference. 

  • The victory was the 700th of Messiah coach Mike Miller's career.
