Cortland Women Show No Rust in 81-48 Win at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Playing its first game since Dec. 12, the Cortland women's basketball team got off to a quick start and never trailed in an 81-48 SUNYAC victory at Plattsburgh. The Red Dragons won their eighth consecutive game to improve to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference. 
 
Maggie Malone (Cornwall) led Cortland with a career-high 22 points and also grabbed four rebounds. Sarah Tully (East Aurora) hit 6-of-7 shots from the field, including both of her 3-point attempts, to finish with a career-best 16 points. She also added six rebounds. 
 
Abby McCoy (Franklinville/Ten Broeck Academy) netted a career-high 11 points, including three 3-pointers in five attempts, and Shannon McGuire (West Babylon) scored 10 points. Olivia Langdon (Little Falls) finished the afternoon with six points, six rebounds and a career-high four assists, while Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) matched her career high with eight rebounds. Also for the Red Dragons, Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) ended with seven rebounds and three steals and Julia Siler (Seaford) had three assists. 
 
Hannah Ruberto scored seven points and handed out three assists and Kanesha Strider scored seven points for the host Cardinals (3-8, 0-4 SUNYAC). Misa Dowdell added six points and Kayla Doody totaled three assists. 
 
Cortland never trailed in the game. The Red Dragons led 15-3 late in the first quarter and 18-5 at the end of the period. The lead grew quickly to 42-10 in the first six minutes and 45 seconds of the second quarter. Cortland led 48-18 at halftime and by as much as 45 points at 65-20 with 2:59 left in the third quarter. 
 
Cortland shot 43 percent from the field, including 42 percent (10-of-24) from 3-point range, and the Red Dragons made 13-of-14 free throws. Cortland held Plattsburgh to 33 percent shooting overall and 26 percent from the arc. 
 
Cortland will play at Potsdam Friday at 2 p.m.
