WENHAM, Mass. -- Jordyn Franzen notched a career-best 28 points to lead the University of New England back from down 12 in the 2nd quarter, defeating Gordon College by a 53-42 tally in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action at the Bennett Center on Wednesday evening (Jan. 12).

The sixth consecutive win moves the Nor'easters to 8-5 overall and 6-0 in the CCC, heading into a showdown with unbeaten Roger Williams University (11-0, 6-0) on Saturday (1 p.m.) at the Forum.

UNE trailed 24-12 with less than four minutes left before halftime and trimmed five off that spread by the intermission (26-19). In conjunction with suffocating defense, the Nor'easters then surged out of the break with a 16-2 span to go up 35-28 with 4:18 remaining in the 3rd. Franzen had already accounted for eight when the visitors took the advantage for good (29-26), and Kaylee Beyor turned in another five during the run.

While the next five went for the Fighting Scots (4-6, 2-2 CCC), Franzen capped the quarter with a trey to maintain the edge (38-33). Shots kept falling as she surpassed her previous scoring high (25) by the 5:39 mark of the 4th, when the Nor'easters had stretched the cushion out to 14 (49-35).

Franzen ended up going 12-for-25 from the field, with four triples, and secured a team-high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Allie Goodman added eight points, seven caroms, and four assists. UNE overcame 33 percent shooting and 5-of-24 accuracy from long distance. The Nor'easters -- who now have a 6-1 record on the road -- led the rebounding department, 42-35, with the difference coming on the offensive glass (15-8).

Madison Wynbeek collected a double-double of 10 points and 13 boards for Gordon, and Ami Rivera also scored 10. The Scots made 8-of-14 field goals in the opening period, but were limited to just 10-of-38 the rest of the way.
